Application
Who is eligible to apply?
Application is open to all Trinity Laban dance alumni, this includes graduates of The Art of Movement Studio and Laban Centre.
I am based outside the UK, can I still apply?
If you are based outside the UK you are welcome to apply. However, please make sure you have sufficient finances available to take part as we are unable to offer funding to support travel, accommodation or other expenses incurred.
What do I need to include in my application?
Please refer to the online application form.
What is the closing date for application for the next performance platform?
9am, Monday 9 September 2019
When will I be informed if my work has been selected?
Early October 2019
How are the works selected?
Applications will be chosen by a panel of Trinity Laban dance faculty staff.
If my work isn’t selected for the next performance platform can I apply for future ones?
Yes. Our aim is to repeat the performance platform so previous applicants can apply again.
Can I show a different piece to the one I outline at the application stage?
No. If you are selected the work you submitted at application stage should be the one that you share at the performance platform.
The Work
Is there a particular length of work you are looking for?
We are looking for work that is between 3 – 15 minutes in length.
What stage of development should the work be at?
Bite Size Pieces is to support alumni in the development of their work, it is an opportunity to test work in process in front of an audience and receive feedback. It is not a showcase for showing already performed and completed work. Therefore work can be at any stage of development and can be shown as an extract or a complete piece.
Can the work be a solo or group piece?
The work can be performed as a solo or a group piece.
My piece includes adult themes / content.
If your work is selected we will contact you for more details.
My work includes performers who are under the age of 18.
You will need to provide correct documentation for anyone under the age of 18 and chaperones.
The Performance Platform
What date will the performance platform take place?
Saturday 23 November 2019 and Saturday 22 February 2020.
Where will the performance platform take place?
The Studio Theatre, Laban Building, Creekside, London SE8 3DZ.
What technical support will I receive?
You will receive some technical support on the day to support the process of showing work for feedback but it should not be considered as production for a final, full performance. There will be an opportunity for a technical run on the day prior to the performance with two technicians available to assist with set up and operate tech requirements during performance. More detailed technical information is below.
I will be using personal equipment as part of my performance is there anything I need to prepare?
Any equipment brought in for the performance must meet current Health & Safety legislation. PAT tests for equipment will be available on the day as part of your allocated tech time.
How will I receive feedback?
Peer feedback will be given as part of the event.
What is the format for the performance platform?
Time will allocated for a full run on the day of the performance platform. The slot you are given will also include time with a technician and you will need to be available to attend.
The performance platform will take place in the evening, start time tbc. There will be an opportunity to recieve peer feedback on the work privately and during the evening an opportunity to meet the audience and other artists over drinks.
Who will the audience be?
This performance is free to attend and will be promoted by Trinity Laban to our students and staff. If you are selected you are expected to promote it to your own network and to invite your contacts.
I’ve heard about an informal performance platform running on some Wednesday evenings at the Laban building, are these related to this performance platform?
On some Wednesday evenings throughout the academic year we are running Bite Size Pieces for students and alumni to present work in development. These sessions are informal, pieces are shorter and there is no tech support. If you are interested in showing work at one these you do not need to apply, please get in touch with alumni@trinitylaban.ac.uk for more information.
Technical information
What is the technical specifications for the space?
Space: performance area is 9m X 9m, grey floor, black out curtains, no wings
Equipment: basic lighting rig (odd special may be possible), playback for sound, projector
Entrance: up stage through doors stage left and stage right and doors down stage of audience
Audience: capacity for 100 on seating unit
