Course Details

Module 1 – Contemporary Dance Technique
Module 2 – Choreography 
Module 3 – Choreological Practice 
Module 4 – Elective (Either Creative Process to Performance, Ballet or Teaching Dance)
Module 5 – Integrated Skills in English 

Successful graduates will achieve a level 6 Trinity Laban Graduate Diploma in Dance and English.

All students taking the Integrated Skills in English module as part of their programme will be entered for the Trinity ISE III (C1) examination. The ISE qualification can be used to demonstrate the level of English required for entry to another undergraduate (B2) or postgraduate (C1) programme at Trinity Laban.

Teaching and Learning

Hours

The Programme consists of 1200 notional learning hours: approx. 800 contact hours (including tutorials); approx. 400 self-directed learning hours. Contact hours and self-directed learning hours are different for each Module.

How will I learn?

Learning will take place through a blend of formal tuition, experiential learning and personal study.

• Technical/performance training and creative practice form the central elements of the core Dance modules with learning and teaching taking place in classes, rehearsals, workshops and tutorials.
• Lecture-based learning and teaching is normally delivered in group lectures or seminars. Students will be supported in the move from guided learning to greater autonomy through their year of study.
• Individual practice (for example, self-directed learning in the body conditioning studio), independent research for developing a personal creative practice, rehearsal of choreographic work developed with peers, and practice time, are all essential elements of conservatoire learning.
• Collaborative learning and practice is a central focus of the programme, with modules 2  and 3 in particular focussing on the creative, collaborative and co-operative exploration with others and involving students as co-creators of their own learning experience.
• English Language teaching will take place in small groups with dialogue and contextualised language at the heart of the process. Students will be set weekly tasks in an approach that seeks to prepare students thoroughly for the required assessments in an immersive experience with English as the medium for instruction. Learning modes will be varied, with students encouraged to use multiple resources to support their learning, and to engage in regular peer-peer dialogue in English.

How will I be assessed?

Assessment tasks are designed to demonstrate your ability to meet the respective learning outcomes of each module and include: practical classes; structured tasks; practical presentations; performance; oral presentations. Assignments are phased and a schedule of submission/presentation dates is published each year.

Entry Requirements

Applicants are expected to:

•  Have experience in a dance/performance arts related area, and a first degree or equivalent level of academic/artistic maturity (such as through experiential knowledge, professional experience, or other qualifications). Recognition of prior learning (RPL) can be applied for
• Hold an English language qualification: normally the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) B2 (IELTS 5.5 min in all areas).
• Applicants are required to submit examples of their practice on DVD or online in support of their application.

Prior to submission of formal application, written/verbal interaction is encouraged between the Programme Leader and candidates to support them in identifying their interests for progression.
