Biography
Born in Milan, Italy, Davide Levi studied violin and conducting at the Conservatorio G. Verdi in Milan. After graduating in 2013, Davide moved to London to work as assistant and cover conductor for the Royal Ballet. Inevitably, working at the Royal Opera House ignited his passion for opera.
Since then, Davide has worked with some of the finest orchestras and opera companies in Europe, including Oper Leipzig, Garsington Opera, Opera North, Orchestra Sinfonica Abruzzese, I Pomeriggi Musicali, the Hebrides Ensemble, the Britten-Pears Orchestra and the Orchestra La Verdi.
Recent engagements include performances of La traviata, Così fan tutte, Carmen, Cavalleria Rusticana, and Rossini's La Cambiale di Matrimonio in two highly acclaimed productions at the Teatro Mancinelli in Orvieto, Italy.
In 2019, he assisted Ulf Schirmer on Oper Leipzig’s highly acclaimed new production of Puccini’s La fanciulla del West and Wagner’s Der Ring des Nibelungen. In 2020, Davide will return to Garsington Opera as assistant conductor for Un Giorno di Regno and to Leipzig for another Ring Cycle. He is the 2019/2020 Sir Charles Mackerras Junior Fellow in Conducting at Trinity Laban and will conduct side-by-side projects with Trinity Symphony, Philharmonia Orchestra and Welsh National Opera. He has conducted workshops for emerging composers with the Orchestra of Opera North and the Hebrides Ensemble
Davide has received numerous awards from organisations including the Jerwood Charitable Trust, the Gerald Finzi Trust, the Britten-Pears Foundation and Opera North.
Davide’s first engagement as the Sir Charles Mackerras Junior Fellow will be conducting the first Side by Side concert of the season, which sees Trinity Laban Symphony Orchestra play works by Prokofiev and Tchaikovsky alongside members of the Philharmonia Orchestra at Blackheath Halls on Friday 18 October 2019.
