Awards for Senior Trinity Laban Staff

Fri 7 December 2018

Two senior members of Trinity Laban’s teaching staff have been recognised recently with major national awards in their respective disciplines.

At the One Dance UK Awards, the winner of the award for Inspirational Lecturer at College, University or Conservatoire was Trinity Laban’s Rosemary Brandt, Senior Lecturer in Choreological Studies and Undergraduate Studies Year One Co-ordinator.

Rosemary Brandt is a much loved and admired figure both at Trinity Laban and across Europe. She has been making a distinct and profound contribution to dance education for more than 25 years, steering generations of students through their studies and into successful careers as dance artists. Her concern to encourage and develop contemporary choreological practice means that she is much in demand as a speaker and adviser, both in the UK and around the world.

In the world of music, Trinity Laban’s Head of Composition, Dominic Murcott, won the Solo or Duo Award at the British Composer Awards for his piece The Harmonic Canon, scored for various metallic percussion and a half-ton double bell.

Dominic Murcott is a renowned composer, percussionist, curator and educator. Since he became Head of Composition at Trinity Laban in 2003, the department has become increasingly renowned for its inventive ‘fine arts’ approach to music-making and the integration of traditional and sonic arts within the curriculum. Dominic Murcott is also much in demand as a world expert on the music of Conlon Nancarrow, and has curated major celebrations of Nancarrow’s work in London and New York.
