A renowned educator, Dr Hopps was Senior Lecturer in Dance (1975-1978) and Director of MA Studies at Trinity Laban (1986-1989), co-creating the conservatoire’s first honours degree in choreography.

The eminent choreographer was also the Founding Director of Scottish Ballet’s Moveable Workshop, and helped set up a choreographers’ committee for the performing arts trade union Equity.

Dr Hopps commented –

“I am absolutely thrilled to receive an OBE.”

Dr Hopps is the latest in a growing list of Trinity Laban individuals who have received recognition in the New Year’s Honours Lists. In 2020, former Trinity Laban Director of Dance Mirella Bartrip was awarded a CBE and for services to dance/education and Trinity Laban composition professor Errollyn Wallen was upgraded to a CBE for services to music.

Congratulations to all our dance sector colleagues and music industry colleagues who were well represented among this year’s list.
