Trinity Laban alumni at dance houses across London

Alumni Ella Mesma and Darren Johnston are presenting new work at two of London’s most important venues.

Ella Mesma’s piece Ladylike will premiere at Sadler’s Wells on June 8 as part of their Wild Card series - a chance to see work by a new generation of dance makers. At the crossroads of hip-hop, Latin and theatre, Mesma curates Guerreras (‘Female warriors’ in Spanish), an evening focusing on the female perspective and tempestuous history of the Latin dance style rumba.

Darren Johnston’s Zero Point – which he will present at the Barbican from 25 to 27 May – represents a new direction as he explores the intersection of the spiritual and the scientific inspired by his time spent in Kochi, Japan. Creating a seamless fusion between visual arts, theatre and dance, the piece merges choreography with architectural projections and an ambient score by electronic music pioneer Tim Hecker. The performance on 26 May features a post-show talk.
