Carol Jarvis

Biography

Carol Jarvis is a much in-demand freelance trombonist, who works almost exclusively in all fields of the profession. Whether playing trombone, keyboards or singing backing vocals, Carol can be found touring the world working with internationally renowned ensembles from the London Symphony Orchestra to the BBC Concert Orchestra, as well as performing regularly in London’s West End shows. If that wasn’t enough, Carol has toured, recorded and worked extensively with the likes of Sting, Queen, Seal, Rod Stewart, Amy Winehouse, MUSE, James Bay, Jess Glynne, Ellie Goulding and Bon Jovi.

A graduate of the Royal Northern College of Music, she studied with John Iveson, Christopher Houlding and Andrew Berryman, gaining the highest qualifications possible. During this time she gained many awards including major scholarships in the UK and USA, and won the Royal Over-seas League Music Competition with the chamber ensemble Bones Apart, which she founded.

She has appeared as Guest Principal with most major UK ensembles including the London Symphony Orchestra, Philharmonia, London Philharmonic, Royal Philharmonic, BBC Symphony, BBC Philharmonic, BBC Welsh, BBC Scottish, BBC Concert Orchestra, CBSO, Hallé Orchestra, Bournemouth Symphony, RSNO, Royal Ballet Sinfonia, City of London Sinfonia, RTÉ National Symphony, the Orchestra of Opera North and Royal Liverpool Philharmonic. Carol’s session work features on a number of commercial soundtracks for feature films, advertisements, jingles, albums and singles. Carol has also contributed to myriad commercial pop tracks and as such her work has appeared in the Top 10 UK charts numerous times.

Carol has been a trombone professor at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music for over eleven years and has given masterclasses throughout the world, including Lucerne Conservatoire in Switzerland, University of California in Los Angeles, Rice University in Houston, Mexico City University, Lima Conservatoire in Peru and at the Jazz Institute in Graz, Austria. She quite often serves as an outside assessor at UK Conservatoires and abroad, and on international juries for trombone competitions around the globe. Carol is a former President of the British Trombone Society and was appointed President of the International Trombone Festival in 2017.

As well as performing and teaching, Carol has written orchestral arrangements for a whole host of different artists and genres. Most notably for the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra and Grammy award-winning stars such as Corinne Bailey Rae and multi-Platinum-selling pop star Seal. She was part of the production team on a Eurovision Song Contest entry representing the UK and her orchestrations have been featured on Mercury Prize nominated albums, been in the top 5 of the UK Album Charts, top 10 on the US Billboard Chart and also been recorded at Capitol Studios in Hollywood.

Carol recorded her debut solo album ‘Smile’ at Pinewood Studios, which reached the penultimate round of the 53rd Annual Grammy Awards. Carol is a solo endorsed artist with Michael Rath Trombones and Roland Keyboards.
