Biography

Edward Henderson is a composer and performer from South London. He studied music at the University of Cambridge and composition at Trinity Laban where he won the Director's Prize for Composition.

Edward co-directs the composers’ collective Bastard Assignments, curating and contributing work to regular shows in London and across Europe. Bastard Assignments have featured in articles and profiles in The Guardian, The Telegraph and The Wire and our performance at Southbank Centre in September 2016 was broadcast live on BBC Radio 3’s Hear and Now programme.

Edward has made two theatrical pieces for Second Movement’s Rough for Opera night, Manspangled and Hum, both of which transferred to Tête à Tête: The Opera Festival at Kings Place. He was commissioned by the pianist Jean-Bernard Marie to write Milk 2 a solo piano piece that has been widely performed across Europe and at the Art Gallery of New South Wales in Sydney as part of Resonate 2015. The 2015 London Contemporary Music Festival (LCMF) was opened by a performance of his Tape Piece.

In 2016 Edward was a member of the Composer-Performer workshop at the Internationale Ferienkurse für Neue Musik in Darmstadt where he made the solo performance piece Totally.

He teaches at Morley College, Trinity Laban and City Lit and runs two inclusive community choirs for Certitude.
