What I love about London is that there are so many concerts – you can just pop along and see a piano duet or a brass quintet playing at lunchtime for free! Everything seems to happen in London – there are so many work opportunities and chances to meet people and mix with other musicians.

Everything seems to happen in London; there’s so many work opportunities and chances to meet people and mix with other musicians; it is really good.

What I’ve found most useful about teaching at Trinity Laban is having two separate teachers, the principal study teacher and the secondary study. Secondary study initially was to do cornet with Bob, but after finding that I need to focus more on trumpet technique that’s what we’ve been doing and it’s just really flexible. If one week I feel I need to do some cornet because I’ve got something coming up on that then we can do that, but also I can go back to trumpet technique if that’s what I want to focus on.

As an artist I’d say I’ve developed in that I pay a lot more attention to detail and I know what I want to sound like a lot more, whereas before I came to conservatoire I just kind of played the trumpet because I wanted to. Now, it’s very focused, and as an artist it’s very important that you do that and you become an individual musician.
