Biography

Christopher was born and educated in Guildford, Surrey, gaining music prizes and awards at its historic Royal Grammar School. He read Music at the University of Cambridge, where he was organ scholar and academic exhibitioner at Corpus Christi College. He subsequently gained a Master’s degree in the Theory and Analysis of Music at Goldsmiths, University of London.

He has since pursued a career as teacher, conductor, accompanist, organist, composer, arranger and writer, working principally in schools around Greater London for over thirty years. He has taught at Trinity Laban’s Junior Department since 2005.

As a young organist he won the national ‘West of England’ organ competition in Bristol. He gained the rare distinction of Honours for his ARCM diploma in organ-performance, and also holds the Fellowship diploma of the Royal College of Organists.

He has worked internationally as an examiner for both the Practical and Theory exams of ABRSM since 2004. He has conducted Northampton Philharmonic Choir in a wide range of concerts since 2005.

He is the author of Bach’s Authentic Chorale Harmony – presenting a new and practical approach to this time-honoured examination topic.
