Biography

Janet Munro studied at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama (now the RCS), the Royal Academy of Music, Middlesex University and the Institute of Education. As a professional singer, she worked for the New D’Oyly Carte Opera Company and Kent Opera as well as giving recitals and concerts in the UK and abroad. As a teacher, she has taught in a variety of educational settings including working as a Head of Music, a workshop leader in adult education and peripatetic teaching in schools. She was a singing mentor for the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music and worked on their Certificate of Teaching and Teaching Music Effectively courses. Janet has been a Council member of the Association of Teachers of Singing and is currently a singing mentor on their innovative Pathway scheme for training singing teachers. She has also been a guest lecturer on vocal health for the Royal College of Music on their MSc in Performance Science.

Janet has been teaching singing at Junior Trinity since 2003. Her students have gained numerous prizes and awards including the prestigious Association of Teacher Junior Recital Prize, twice in 2006 and 2016 and the Canterbury Festival Young Musician Bursary Competition 2016. Students have gone onto study at universities and conservatoires including Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance, the RCS, GSMD and the Birmingham Conservatoire. A number have won choral scholarships to Oxbridge as well as other universities.  Janet also teaches in the senior conservatoire and has a private studio of students of all ages.
