Biography
Since studying the bassoon at Trinity gaining FTCL, GTCL, LRAM and ARCM, Sue has continued to live and work in Ilford whilst bringing up two children who are now grown up. As well as teaching the bassoon at Junior Trinity, she is also the bassoon specialist and part time woodwind teacher for both Redbridge and Waltham Forest Music Services and several private schools.
Playing has always been an important and integral part of her life and she plays in concerts regularly in and around the London area. She is currently a member, and the Woodwind fixer of the Aurelian Ensemble, (an orchestra that is booked, mainly to accompany choral societies), a member and fixer of the Essex Chamber Orchestra and, since September 2008, is the Principal Bassoon of the De Havilland Philharmonic Orchestra (an orchestra of professional musicians, teachers and players from all different professions which gives 7 concerts a year in the Weston Auditorium of Hertfordshire University).
Two years ago, she was involved in the relaunching of the Antigua Youth Orchestra and has been out to the island twice to help coach the wind players and give concerts in schools alongside the Kanneh Mason family.
She tries to promote the bassoon wherever possible and thinks it is important to be a peripatetic teacher who still plays and performs regularly. In her spare time she likes to play netball, enjoys gardening and watching her daughter playing football.
Junior Trinity
Junior Trinity is a Saturday Music Department for 3-19 year olds. We were the first Junior Department of a UK Conservatoire to open its doors to schoolchildren on Saturdays in 1906. Since then thousands of young people have benefited from the opportunities to make music as individuals and in a wide variety of small and large ensembles. From Trinity Teenies aged 3-5 right through to university and conservatoire entrance, it is our aim to encourage a lifelong interest in music and to give our students the opportunities to develop to their maximum potential.
