Gemma Harman

Biography

Gemma has a BA (Hons) degree in Performing Arts (Dance) from Middlesex University and an MSc in Dance Science (with Distinction) from Trinity Laban. A trained dancer, Gemma is a teaching associate of the National Association of Teachers of Dancing and has experience teaching a range of techniques and creative dance classes at recreational and higher education levels. A proficient clarinettist, Gemma was a member of Dorset Youth Orchestra and Dorset Youth Wind Orchestra.

Gemma is currently undertaking doctoral study (MPhil/PhD) in Dance and Music Science at Trinity Laban. Her research investigates professional dancers’ and musicians’ understanding and experience of performance. More widely, Gemma’s research interests lie in the principles underlying healthy dance and music practice and ways in which the fields of Performing Arts Medicine and Science/Dance Science can be applied to, and inform other artistic disciplines. Gemma has been teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels since 2010.

Gemma also works within the Student Services department at Trinity Laban, where she is a Student Adviser for the Music Faculty. Gemma currently sits on the Promotion Committee of the International Association of Dance Medicine and Science (IADMS).
