Laureen Livingstone studied at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and won a Sir James Caird award and a Peter Stuyvesant scholarship to continue her training at the London Opera Centre. Laureen’s operatic career began with Glyndebourne Festival Opera in Peter Hall’s production of Monteverdi’s Il Ritorno d’Ulisse in Patria (Amore) conducted by Raymond Leppard in 1972, and since then she appeared regularly in principal roles with all the leading British opera companies. Her roles for Scottish Opera have included Pamina in Die Zauberflöte, Zerlina in Don Giovanni, Gretel in Humperdinck’s Hansel and Gretel and Lucia in Britten’s The Rape of Lucretia. She sang Sophie in Der Rosenkavalier with Sir Charles Mackerras and Gilda in Jonathan Miller’s production of Rigoletto for English National Opera; Susanna, Gretel, Sophie (Der Rosenkavalier) and Vrenchen in Delius’s A Village Romeo and Juliet for ENO North; Iphis in Jephtha and Iole in Hercules for Handel Opera as well as major roles for New Sadler’s Wells Opera, English Music Theatre, Kent Opera, New Opera Company and others.

She performed many of these roles abroad, including Gilda with Royal Flemish Opera and Woglinde in Das Rheingold for San Carlo Opera, Naples. With Scottish Opera she sang in Germany and Poland, with New Sadler’s Wells Opera in Israel and in Monteverdi’s L’Incoronazione di Poppea at the Lisbon Festival.Laureen has broadcast extensively for the BBC in their Concert Hall series and as a recitalist for Radio 3. She was a soloist at the Proms, and she sang in several opera productions for BBC television. Her concert career has included many appearances on the South Bank and at the Wigmore Hall and she has appeared as a soloist with many of the major symphony orchestras and ensembles in the UK, including the London Symphony Orchestra, the Hallé, the Scottish National, the Scottish Chamber, the Northern Sinfonia, English Sinfonia and the London Philharmonic.
