Marney O’Sullivan has taught timpani at Trinity Laban since 2007. He is currently Principal Timpanist of the BBC Concert Orchestra, having previously held the same position at Royal Northern Sinfonia and the Orchestra of Opera North. He also appears regularly as a guest with the London Philharmonic Orchestra (LPO) and many other orchestras throughout the UK and Ireland.

Marney’s professional experience thus encompasses almost every aspect of modern timpani playing – symphonic, opera, TV & radio, commercial and film studio work, chamber orchestra, period instruments and chamber ensembles. His timpani playing can be heard on hundreds of CDs, DVDs and broadcasts, and he has performed across the world.

He was director of the UK’s first Percussion Summer School from 2004 to 2008 and for many years co-directed globalmusicfoundation.org, which runs jazz and world music courses in the UK, Italy, Croatia, Germany, Spain and China.
