About Acupressure

Acupressure uses a wide range of massage techniques that can be applied either powerfully or gently for subtle energy work. Like other forms of massage, it can be used preventatively, to encourage the movement of energy and blood. Acupressure can be used in conjunction with the other branches of traditional Chinese medicine such as Acupuncture.

Acupressure focuses on the needs of the individual. Treatments are based on a full Chinese medical diagnosis, incorporating examination of the tongue and pulse, which targets both the roots and symptoms to restore balance to the body.

Acupressure can help with:

  • Back, neck and shoulder pain
  • Sciatica
  • Arthritis
  • Sports injuries
  • Menstrual problems
  • Digestive problems and IBS
  • Hay fever and common cold symptoms
  • Asthma
  • Migraines
  • Anxiety
  • Stress

Benefits:

  • Relieve stress and tension
  • Promote relaxation
  • Aid sleep
  • Increase energy

What to Expect in a Treatment:

Acupressure practitioners use their fingers, palms, elbows or special devices to apply pressure to acupuncture points on the body. Acupressure massage can be applied either lying down or sitting in a chair. You do not usually need to remove any clothing unless the practitioner needs to apply herbal liniment to your skin, or use moxa, gua sha and cupping techniques. Very often, you will be wrapped in a sheet or towel. Acupressure techniques include; rolling, rocking and vibration.

Before and After Treatment:

  • You may leave a little sore, light-headed or supercharged after your treatment.
  • Patients usually feel revived after their treatment.
  • It is important to drink plenty of water after your massage treatment to clear away any toxins.
