Class Information

  • Carers & Preschoolers (3-4 years)
  • 4-5 years
  • 6-7 years
  • 8-9 years
  • 10-11 years
  • 12-14 years

Carers and Preschoolers classes are playful, practical sessions to encourage young children to express themselves with the support of their parent/carer. Through movement, play, music, and games, toddlers and carers have the opportunity to have fun working together to explore their physicality.

Children over the age of 4 begin to build physical coordination and confidence in creative classes that offer them the opportunity to create their own imaginative movement sequences and dance phrases, guided by their teachers.

Older children are introduced to the principles and foundations of contemporary dance technique. They will have the opportunity to work together creatively and, with the guidance of our teachers, devise movement work of their own.

Joining the Children’s Creative Dance Programme

Please note that the waiting list for Children’s Creative Dance Classes is long.  Due to the popularity of these classes, it can take approximately 2-3 years to potentially be offered a place.

It could take longer if your child is aged 6+ due to the demand for places in these age groups. If you’d like to take part, join our waiting list.

By joining the waiting list, places on our children’s classes are not guaranteed, and whilst you wait to be offered a place we recommend your child joining other local classes. There is plenty of choice across London for dance and there are lots of classes that will help nurture your child’s creativity, imagination and dance skills before they come to Trinity Laban.

If you are looking for an inclusive Saturday dance class, you might also want be interested in Dance Ability. This weekly Saturday dance class does not currently have a waiting list and is specially designed for young dances between the learning ages 5 – 12 with physical and/or cognitive disabilities. Please see below for more information.

If your young person is aged 11+ years please see our mid-week Dance Classes for Young People.

To add your child to the Children’s Programme waiting list, please complete the application form. You will receive an automatic response confirming your child’s place on the waiting list. Please do keep that email for your records.

FAQ’s

Does my child need previous dance experience to be offered a space?

No experience is required to join our Saturday classes. Our teachers draw on your child’s natural abilities, encouraging potential, nurturing inventiveness, and building physical confidence as movement vocabulary develops.

How do you allocate spaces?

Places are offered on a first come, first served basis when a space becomes available in the appropriate age group. Children are allocated to a class for the full academic year (September-July) based on the age they will be for the majority of the year.

For example:

A child who turns 6 after the February half term will be offered a place in 4-5 years

A child who turns 6 before the February half term will be offered a place in 6-7 years.

We invite children to join the programme at the start of the Autumn, Spring and Summer terms (subject to places available).

Why has my friend’s child has been offered a class before mine, yet I applied previously?

Places are offered on a first come, first served basis when a space becomes available in the appropriate age group. Some age groups and classes have a longer wait than others. Please see above for further information on our allocation process.

Where is my child on the waiting list?

We are not able to respond to emails regarding to where your child is on the waiting list.  We have over 1000 children on our waiting list and are therefore unable to provide updates for individual children. Children are offered places on a first come, first served basis and you will be contacted by email when we can offer a space in the appropriate age group.  We do ask that you keep in touch to update us with any change to contact details or if you wish to be removed from the waiting list.

I would like to add more than one child to the list, will they be offered a class at the same time?

Whilst we make every effort to enable siblings to be offered a place around the same time, this cannot be guaranteed and there may be a significant gap between siblings being invited to join the programme.

What other classes can you recommend?

If you live in or near Bellingham you may be interested in our Bellingham Beats classes for 5-13 years olds.

I’d like to ask another question

Due to the high volume of queries we receive on a daily basis, we are not able to respond to general questions regarding the waiting list or queries regarding your child’s position on the list.

If your child has been on the list for over three years and you would like to confirm we still have their details on record, or you need to update your email address, please email shortcourses@trinitylaban.ac.uk.
