Join us for our next Girls and Young Women in Jazz day, allowing young female artists to develop skills and technique in jazz performance through fun and informal workshops and masterclasses. Participants work alongside jazz musicians and students from Trinity Laban, perform as part of an ensemble, share new musical ideas, give peer-to-peer feedback and receive helpful support and advice on their playing from industry professionals.
There are two different workshops available on a Girls and Young Women in Jazz day:
A Taste of Jazz, for girls aged 11 - 16, provides an interactive day of jazz exploration and playing with professional jazz artists and students from Trinity Laban. Throughout the workshop, participants develop their improvisation skills, explore jazz influences in music today and learn about some the great and inspiring women in jazz. Participants also make new friends and are able to explore some of the practice rooms and performance spaces here at the conservatoire.
Young Women in Jazz, for female musicians aged 16+, offers a more intensive opportunity to experience what it's like to study jazz at conservatoire level. Participants work alongside Trinity Laban jazz tutors and professional musicians, as well as jazz students, to improve their jazz technique, gain peer-to-peer feedback and perform as an ensemble. Participants can also take part in an informal Q&A with Head of Jazz, Simon Purcell, and play to an audience at the end of their workshop.
I'm interested! How can I take part?
