Trinity Laban has been working with Vital Arts since 2010. We have delivered three creative dance programmes in The Royal London Hospital working alongside two teams of pediatric physiotherapists, the hospital school and play specialists. Our fully inclusive dance and creative movement programme includes sensory work for those with special needs, bespoke one-to-one classes for patients undergoing neuro-rehabilitation, cardiovascular workouts for respiratory patients, creative movement for babies, toddlers and their parents, with street dance and hip hop with those attending outpatient clinics. Sessions take place in play areas, clinics, wards, waiting areas, classrooms, physio gymnasiums and a giant internal play space.

In 2015 Trinity Laban worked with Vital Arts to pilot a similar model at Mile End Hospital for the Older Adult Rehabilitative wards. This programme included highly creative group sessions and bedside work to improve physical capabilities and cognitive engagement. We are looking to extend this work to other Barts Trust hospitals in the future. Trinity Laban’s Dance Science Department has evaluated this project. Download the service evaluation in pdf.
