Beijing Dance Academy Trinity Laban Institute
Trinity Laban and Beijing Dance Academy (BDA) have a long-standing collaborative relationship spanning more than a decade. Following approval from the Chinese Ministry of Education in December 2025, the two institutions will establish a joint Beijing Dance Academy Trinity Laban Institute in China.
A Historic First
As UK-China’s first joint institute within the performing arts university sector, this initiative marks a significant milestone for both organisations. It also represents Trinity Laban’s first Transnational Education (TNE) initiative, beginning new chapter in international collaboration and global partnership development.
The joint Institute has initially received approval for two degree programmes, with plans to expand its portfolio into more dance and musical theatre courses in the coming years.

The programmes will draw on the world-leading dance expertise of both organisations, combining an international outlook with distinctive Chinese characteristics. The joint Institute is committed to becoming a centre of excellence for international dance education, cultivating globally minded performers with cross-cultural understanding, a strong grounding in Chinese artistic traditions and outstanding professional skills.
The Institute will foster an open, diverse and innovative learning environment, offering students a world-class education experience. Graduates will develop a distinctive blend of academic and artistic skills, highly valued both in China and around the world.
A Centre of Excellence
The establishment of the joint Institute marks the culmination of more than a decade of close collaboration between Trinity Laban and Beijing Dance Academy. It further integrates the world-leading teaching resources at both organisations and creates a new platform for internationalisation and integrated development of dance education and research.
Graduates will be awarded two degrees (one from each organisation) and will be taught and assessed in English. The first intake of students will be in September 2027.
This is a groundbreaking partnership between Trinity Laban and Beijing Dance Academy, as we forge a new path in transnational education, and contribute to strengthening UK-China relations. Between us, we have developed some of the world’s finest dance artists, and this joint institute will enable closer collaboration, new ideas and research and much more. It is thrilling.
