Anna Clyne appointed Visiting Fellow in Composition at Trinity Laban

Trinity Laban welcomes Anna Clyne as our new Visiting Fellow in Composition. Described as a “composer of uncommon gifts and unusual methods” by the New York Times and as “fearless” by NPR, GRAMMY-nominated Anna Clyne is one of the most in-demand composers today, working with orchestras, choreographers, filmmakers, and visual artists around the world.

Anna has been commissioned and presented by the world’s most dynamic and revered arts institutions, including the Barbican, Carnegie Hall, Los Angeles Philharmonic, and Philharmonie de Paris, and her music has opened such events as the Edinburgh International Festival, The Last Night of the Proms, and the New York Philharmonic’s season. Having worked with orchestras across the world as Composer in Residence – such as the BBC Philharmonic and Chicago Symphony Orchestra – she is deeply committed to music education and to supporting the next generation of composers, teaching masterclasses internationally. Anna is the founding mentor for the Orchestra of St Luke’s Degaetano Composition Institute, the Scottish Chamber Orchestra’s New Stories program, and the Berkeley Symphony Orchestra’s Emerging Composers Program.

Anna’s music has been widely played at Trinity Laban, with our Symphony Orchestra most recently performing <<rewind<< on Thursday 30 October at Blackheath Halls, conducted by Jonathan Tilbrook. Our Artistic Director Aleks Szram also performed Red Nines in the Women’s Work in Music Conference, and our String Ensemble will be performing Stride as part of two concerts at St Bartholomew-the-Great and Queen’s House, Greenwich.

Commenting on her appointment, Anna Clyne said: “I am delighted to be a Visiting Fellow in Composition at Trinity Laban this year. I am very much looking forward to working with the composers and hearing student ensembles as they rehearse and interpret my music. Learning from other composers has been an important part of my journey, and I look forward to sharing my experiences and music with this next generation of excellent music-makers.”
