Trinity Laban’s BA (Hons) Contemporary Dance programme is seeking to commission a new dance work for young audiences. The commission offers an exciting opportunity for an artist or collective to create and share original work with young people, while collaborating closely with the next generation of dance artists.
The commissioned work will last approximately 15 to 20 minutes and will be created in collaboration with, and performed by third-year BA (Hons) Contemporary Dance students. Previous commissioned works have been created by artists such as Takeshi Matsumoto and Xenia Aidonopoulou.
As part of the creative process, the commissioned artist and student performers will visit a local primary school to share early ideas with pupils and gather their responses. These insights will help inform and shape the development of the work. The work will premiere at Trinity Laban before being performed at local primary schools and eventually going on tour. The project will allow students to gain first-hand experience of creating, rehearsing and performing a professionally commissioned work for touring.
Applications are open to individual artists or collectives at all stages of their careers, working across contemporary dance and a range of movement-based practices and genres.
