It is with great sadness that we share the news of the death of Gianfranco Biasiol, a valued member of our community and a dedicated Musician in Dance since November 2006.
Gianfranco’s exceptional talent, generosity of spirit, and deep passion for music enriched the lives of countless students and colleagues. Not only did Gianfranco make a significant contribution to Dance, he led many CoLab projects, and for many years ran the Playing for Dance module; many of the piano students from his class went on to work as accompanists at the Royal Ballet and elsewhere.
Gianfranco was an extraordinarily talented pianist, percussionist and composer. His ability to bring movement and sound together created an inspiring environment where creativity could flourish. Gianfranco’s warmth and professionalism left a lasting impression on everyone who had the privilege of working with him.
Gianfranco Biasiol studied classical piano in at the Conservatoire of Turin, composition with Ivan Fedele, and jazz piano with Franco D’Andrea in Milan. Further research and activity brought him to experiment with a variety of forms and musical cultures.
He performed as a soloist and collaboratively, participating in events such as Open Up Festival, Royal Opera House (London), Musincanto Festival (Turin), Jazz Fest Wien (Vienna). His music has been published by various record labels, including Tauri (Italy) and Putumayo World Music (New York); his compositions are often used in dance performances and in films/videos.
We extend our heartfelt condolences to Gianfranco’s family, friends, and all who knew him. His contribution to Trinity Laban and to our artistic community will be remembered with profound gratitude and respect.
