We were saddened to learn of the death of John Heighway RVM, Honorary Fellow of Trinity Laban and a much-respected former member of staff.
John joined Trinity College of Music from Goldsmiths in the 1990s and served with distinction for many years, progressing through roles including Programme Leader, Assistant Director of Music, and Deputy Principal. As a member of the Executive Team from 2005 to 2010, he played a pivotal role during a significant period in the institution’s history, helping to guide the early years of the Trinity College of Music and Laban merger. He was instrumental in harmonising academic systems across the two organisations, leading the transfer of degree programmes to City University, and preparing the music provision for a major Quality Assurance Agency review. John was widely admired by colleagues for his professionalism, wisdom and unfailing support.
John was the longest-serving Lay Clerk at St George’s Chapel, Windsor, serving for more than 30 years. In recognition of this distinguished service, he was awarded the Royal Victorian Medal (RVM) in the 2013 New Year Honours.
John retired from Trinity Laban in 2010 and was made an Honorary Fellow of Trinity Laban in 2011, in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the institution. He will be remembered with gratitude and affection by colleagues and friends across the Trinity Laban community.
