Trinity Laban BMus alum Scarlett Jones won first place and a prize of $25,000 at the Eleanor McCollum Competition for Young Singers at the Houston Grand Opera.
Having graduated only last year, Scarlett is currently completing a master’s degree at the Julliard School and is a recipient of the Kovner Fellowship. This news follows her fantastic triumph as winner of the Metropolitan Opera Competition in the New York District.
You can watch her winning performance of “Dich, teure Halle” from Wagner’s Tannhäuser here:
HGO General Director Khori Dastoor said: “Tonight’s concert was a celebration in every sense. These extraordinary young artists brought fearless joy and inspiring artistry to the stage, delivering performances they—and we—can be deeply proud of. It was thrilling to watch them step onto the Brown stage to perform with our beloved orchestra, led by Maestro Summers. The Concert of Arias is the purest expression of HGO’s mission: discovering, nurturing, and championing the voices that will define the future of opera.”
