Trinity Laban alum Scarlett Jones has been announced as a winner of the Metropolitan Opera Competition in the New York District.
The Met’s Laffont Competition is designed to discover promising young opera singers and assist in the development of their careers. It is sponsored by hundreds of donors and volunteers from across North and South America. Some of today’s greatest singers got their starts in the competition, including Jamie Barton, Stephanie Blythe, Lawrence Brownlee, Anthony Roth Costanzo, Emily D’Angelo, Michael Fabiano, Renée Fleming, Susan Graham, Ryan Speedo Green, Lisette Oropesa, Eric Owens, and Nadine Sierra.
Trinity Laban BMus alum Scarlett Jones now joins their ranks as winner in the New York District in the Met Opera Competition. Having graduated only last year, she is currently completing a master’s degree at the Julliard School and is a recipient of the Kovner Fellowship.
Commenting on her success, Scarlett Jones said: “Still in slight disbelief, but I am so thrilled to announce that I have been named a winner of the New York District of the Met Opera Competition. I can’t wait to compete alongside my supremely talented friends, peers, and colleagues going forward into the Eastern Region. I’d also like to thank the Metropolitan Opera Laffont Competition Eastern Region and the fabulous team of volunteers who work tirelessly to keep everything running smoothly and for creating such a supportive environment.”
