Sharing our 2024-25 Public Engagement Impact Report

Today, we are proud to publish our 2024-25 Public Engagement Impact Report, celebrating a year of creativity, collaboration and impact across London and the South East.

Over the 2024-25 academic year, we delivered 2,614 public engagement activities, reaching 13,835 individual participants and generating more than 144,000 instances of engagement through music, dance and musical theatre.

These figures tell an important story. But what matters most is the people behind them.

Behind every number is a child experiencing live music for the first time, a young person discovering their creative potential, an aspiring artist taking the next step towards a career, or someone finding confidence, connection and wellbeing through participation in the arts.

As a conservatoire, our vision is Excellence Beyond Tradition. Public engagement is central to that ambition, ensuring that the transformative power of music and dance extends beyond our campuses and into the communities we serve.

This year’s report reflects the strength of our long-standing partnerships with schools, local authorities, NHS services, cultural organisations and community groups. Together, we are creating opportunities for people of all ages and backgrounds to access, participate in and benefit from the arts.

That commitment remains particularly strong in our local communities, with 64% of participants coming from our home boroughs of Lewisham and Greenwich.

From schools programmes and talent development initiatives to creative health projects such as Moving Stories and programmes supporting people living with Parkinson’s, our work demonstrates how artistic excellence and social impact can go hand in hand. The report also highlights our investment in the creative workforce, with 370 artists, 175 students and 19 alumni engaged through our public engagement activity during the year.

None of this would be possible without the support of our partners, donors and supporters, whose trust and collaboration continue to strengthen our work. We are also grateful to our Public Engagement team, the artists, students and alumni who bring creativity and expertise to every project, and the teachers, healthcare professionals and community leaders who help us reach people where creativity can make the greatest difference.

Above all, we thank the thousands of participants whose curiosity, commitment and creativity are at the heart of everything we do.

As we look ahead, we remain committed to ensuring that music and dance are accessible to everyone, not as a luxury, but as an essential part of a healthy, confident and creative society. Find out more about our Public Engagement programmes, and how to get involved here.
