Trinity Laban granted funding from the Wolfson Foundation

Trinity Laban is thrilled to be awarded a £100,000 grant from the Wolfson Foundation. The grant will go towards the cost of upgrading the lighting systems in Laban Theatre.

The Foundation have funded capital improvements in all of our buildings at Trinity Laban, including the Percussion Rooms in King Charles Court, Performance Lab 1 at Laurie Grove, and now vital lighting work in Laban Theatre.

Designed in stylish dark wood, Laban Theatre sits at the heart of the Laban building and offers a contrasting environment to the bright colours of the surrounding corridors and studio spaces. Seating 300 people, it is a key venue for student performances, conferences, award ceremonies, and various other events. The impressive lighting and sound capabilities, and counterweight flying facility offers enormous creative potential for any event.

Laban Theatre is a crucial part of Trinity Laban’s provision – for students, alumni, external companies, and our extensive widening participation work with schools, charities, and the community. However, after 22 years in operation, its technical infrastructure – particularly the lighting systems – require urgent refurbishment. The grant from Wolfson Foundation will directly facilitate this.

Our continued relationship with the Wolfson Foundation also includes working together on the Wolfson Music Awards, the Foundation’s music education programme , of which Trinity Laban is one of nine partner institutions. The scheme offers annual  funding which has supported hundreds of our Junior Trinity Students to study, and hundreds of our undergraduates to buy instruments that support their progression in their studies into their early careers.

Paul Ramsbottom, chief executive of the Wolfson Foundation, said: “We are delighted to continue our longstanding relationship with Trinity Laban by supporting the upgrade of the Laban Theatre’s lighting systems. These improvements will help ensure the theatre can continue to serve students, and the wider community, for years to come.”
