From powerful brass ensembles to expressive strings and vibrant percussion, our Instrument Masterclass Days celebrate the joy of making music together. Here are some highlights from recent events.
I thought that all of the teaching staff were really good. They were all very experienced and inspiring and helped me develop techniques that I would not have the opportunity to acquire in other settings.
I learnt a lot about my instrument that I never realised before – it has inspired me to join an ensemble.

What to expect
We are student-centric, inclusive, and pioneering
Each of our Instrument Masterclass Days is unique, but a typical day might include:
- A chance to meet (and hear) conservatoire staff and students who play your instrument to a high level;
- Small group tuition such as a technique workshop or a masterclass (where each person brings a piece for feedback);
- Ensemble coaching – for example, working as an octet or even a chamber orchestra;
- Informally performing what you’ve learned to your families at the end of the day.
Frequently Asked Questions
Who are Instrument Masterclass Days for?
Anybody who is enthusiastic about the instrument, is at the minimum standard we’ve stated for the day (e.g. Grade 3), and is keen to expand their experience.
What if I have not taken grade exams?
That is fine! We will ask you to estimate what standard you are when applying so that we can put you in the right group – but if you don’t know what grade you are at, try telling us a piece you’ve recently learned, how many years you’ve been playing, or what kind of groups you play with.
Do parents stay on site?
This is a drop-off event where parents leave after registration, and return at the end of the day. Our cafe is not open on Sundays but there is lots to do in Greenwich including museums and many cafes.
Can you advise me about getting into conservatoires?
Yes – we have staff and students on hand with experience of both sides of the audition process! If you are interested in applying to conservatoires in the next few years, do let us know on your application so that we can include a 1:1 or small group advice session for you.
