Our Schools’ Concert Series for KS1 – 5 gives pupils the opportunity to experience a wide range of music, performed live and up close.

Concerts are performed by students from Trinity Laban and presented by a professional music specialist, providing an interactive journey through a range of curriculum set works and other pieces.

Our next concert will take place in Autumn 2025: more details coming soon!

Trinity Laban A Level Music Day

Friday 7 February 2025
Venue: Blackheath Halls

Composition workshop: 11.00 – 12.15
Concert: 13.00 – 14.45

This intensive and immersive day focused on both the composing and appraising aspects of the A Level Music syllabus.

In the morning session, a selection of Year 12 compositions were workshopped by Trinity Laban musicians, with feedback provided by Trinity Laban’s Head of Composition.

The afternoon concert featured excerpts from:

  • Scenes from Mozart’s Marriage of Figaro

  • Debussy, Estampes for solo piano, and Nuages for two pianos

  • A jazz combo performing music from genres between 1920s – 1960s

Our expert presenter Patrick Bailey led a focused analysis and exploration of the music, pulling out key musical elements, to support students’ learning in the classroom.

As part of the event we provided resources to support A Level students to write their own music to a composing brief, and get later feedback from Trinity Laban composers.  Contact us if you would like to access these resources.

The Young Person’s Guide to the Orchestra

Friday 28 March 2025, 11:00-12:00 and 13:00-14:00

School Concerts for pupils in Years 1-4

Venue: Blackheath Halls

Guided by our presenters, the mighty Trinity Laban Symphony Orchestra took school audiences on a whistle-stop tour of the different musical instruments and their families. Written 90 years ago, Benjamin Britten’s piece – The Young Person’s Guide to the Orchestra – features some of the most iconic and catchy music ever composed for orchestra! Before the concert, schools were provided with a resource pack containing lots of tips for listening and background information.

Tickets cost £100 per class (max 30 children per class). Up to 3 accompanying teachers per class go free.

Orchestra Explorers

Key Stage 2
November 2023
Venue: Blackheath Halls
Presenter: Kit Massey

Trinity Laban Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Vicente Chavarria, performing Prokofiev’s Symphony no. 7

Our intrepid audience from Years 3 – 6 joined us on a journey through the four seasons, spotting Prokofiev’s musical jokes and imagery along the way. An annoying barking dog, a ticking clock winding down, and a ‘dream of days gone by’ were all part of our story as we met the different families and instruments of the Symphony Orchestra.

GCSE Concert

Key Stage 4
February 2024
Venue: Blackheath Halls
Presenter:  Simeon Smith

Trinity Laban students from the Jazz, Strings, Woodwind, Keyboard and Popular Music departments

Trinity Laban’s students presented set works from GCSE specifications: the spellbinding ‘Samba em Preludio’ in the style of Esperanza Spalding, the energetic ‘Badinerie’ by J.S. Bach, and finally, a set of songs by Queen from our Popular Music students, including ‘Killer Queen’ and ‘We Will Rock You’. Techniques and extracts from the pieces were discussed and dissected live on stage for our Year 10 and 11 audience.

A Day at the Opera

Key Stage 1 and 2
April 2024
Venue:
Blackheath Halls
Presenter: Omar Shahryar

Trinity Laban vocal students and accompanists

Dancing dolls, cheeky children and ghost stories – Trinity Laban’s vocal students presented a schools’ performance of opera scenes with costumes and props – not to mention light-up singing trees! Presenter Omar Shahryar welcomed two busy audiences of children from Years 1 – 6, who really impressed us with their listening and singing skills and their creative interview questions for the characters.

Feedback from schools

The students absolutely loved the concert! It was a really unique experience for them, and as staff we found the whole event was well planned, well supervised and in a great location. Thank you for having us – we indeed hope to be back soon!

Boxgrove Primary School

The concert was very well organised with appropriate content. It has helped our students retain information about the pieces and supported their revision.
