Student transfers

Transferring between Trinity Laban Programmes

Applications to transfer between programmes must normally be made by 31 October. Later deadlines may apply to programmes which share a significant number of modules (for example MSc Dance Science and MFA Dance Science). Transfers are subject to approval by both the Programme Leader of the current programme and the Programme Leader of the new programme (if different). Students may be required to attend an interview or audition, or to complete a written task if the new programme has additional entry requirements that were not met through the admissions process for the current programme. All applications should be made using the standard form: Moodle > Registry and Student Support > Useful Forms.

As part of the transfer process students are required to visit the Registry to discuss the financial and administrative implications of the transfer. Any additional fees incurred must be paid before the transfer can be effected. Students holding a Tier 4 visa requesting transfer to a programme of a longer duration or at a different level will be required to return to their home country to apply for a new visa before transferring.

Transferring into a Trinity Laban Programme from another institution

Applications to transfer from another institution to a programme at Trinity Laban should be made through UCAS Conservatoires. Students will normally be required to attend an audition and/or an interview as part of the admissions process. The application to transfer should normally be made before the start of the academic year in which the student will join the new programme. Where a student registers at another institution and transfers after the start of the academic year, there may be additional fee liability in excess of the maximum amount available to borrow as a tuition fee loan. In this situation, the additional fee will be the responsibility of the student and must be paid before the transfer can be effected.

At the time of application, students applying to enter a programme with advanced standing (i.e. transferring into the 2nd or 3rd year of a Trinity Laban Programme), must complete the standard Recognition of Prior Learning form. Assistance to complete the form will be available from the Registry and the relevant Programme Leader. The form should be accompanied by an academic transcript and where necessary, specifications for the programme and/or modules completed at the current institution.

Transferring to another institution from Trinity Laban

Should a student find that their current programme of study at Trinity Laban is not meeting their needs, they will be invited to discuss their options with their current Programme Leader and (for Music Programmes) the Head of Department. Practical advice and support, including Careers Advice is available from the Student Services team.

Where a student wishes to transfer to another institution, they should apply to the new institution in accordance with its admissions and credit transfer procedures and complete a Trinity Laban withdrawal form available from Moodle > Registry and Student Support > Useful Forms. Registry staff will be able to provide advice on the likely administrative and financial implications of the transfer and to provide supporting documents, such as interim transcripts and programme specifications. References from academic staff may be requested in support of the transfer application.

Where a student registers at Trinity Laban and transfers to another institution after the start of the academic year, there may be additional fee liability in excess of the maximum amount available to borrow as a tuition fee loan.
