What to expect on the day

Our Open Days include course-specific sessions and workshops to help you explore life at Trinity Laban – see the sessions and workshops section below for details relevant to your area of interest.

You’re welcome to bring a guest, who can attend some relevant sessions too, to find out more about practicalities like accommodation, fees and moving to London.

What should I wear?

Wear something comfortable. If you are taking part in practical workshops, we recommend bringing appropriate dancewear and footwear.

What should I bring?

You may wish to bring a notebook and pen, or other way of taking notes.

Any questions you have, so that we can try and answer them.

You may need dance shoes, training wear or specific kit depending on your areas of interest, but we will let you know in advance what to bring.

MA/MFA Dance Performance Open Workshops 2026

The MA/MFA Dance Performance at Trinity Laban offers you the opportunity to research and explore the role of the performer in the artistic process, and to deepen your understanding of both the artistic and technical complexities that form part of dance performance.

You’ll be immersed in an intensive year of physical and creative exploration. You’ll get to identify and give voice to your own interests and ambitions, reflect on your performance practice, and start your professional career with a network of peers.

The Open Workshops are suitable if you are thinking about applying and want to find out more, or, if you have already applied, the workshops form part of the audition and interview process.

Welcome Talk and Performance

After a welcome from Trinity Laban’s leadership team, you’ll get to see a cross-artform student performance, showcasing collaboration, excellence and creativity. Learn more about us, our international community, the careers our alumni forge, and what you can expect as a student at Trinity Laban.

Tours

Student ambassadors lead tours throughout the day, showcasing key facilities at our campus buildings, sharing some of their own experiences and answering questions.

Marketplace

Learn more about Student Support, the Students’ Union and individual artforms at Trinity Laban. Find out about our work in Public Engagement, and the opportunities that gives you in your training. Materials and representatives will be available during the afternoon at both sites.

How to Apply Talk

A step-by-step guide to the process of applying to Trinity Laban through UCAS Conservatoires, including advice about entry requirements, deadlines for different programmes, and face-to-face and recorded auditions.

Accommodation and Student Support Talk

All you need to know about accommodation (halls of residence and private), when and how to apply for it, and what it costs. Learn more about Student Support and the pastoral care and aid available to students, from counselling to Disabled Students’ Allowance (DSA).

Parent/Carer Q+A and Individual Student Support Queries

This end-of-day drop-in session is for guests and prospective students who have individual questions that they would like to discuss with our Student Support and Student Recruitment teams.


Classical Music

Department Talks

(no booking required; prospective students have priority, guests admitted if there is space)

Led by the Head of Department, these sessions are an opportunity to gain insight into our specialist offer, such as:

· Department classes and masterclasses

· Instrument-specific support (e.g. reed-making class, on-site luthier)

· Ensemble experiences and performance opportunities

· Examples of recent guest artists, projects, or collaborations

· Alumni stories

 

Classical Mock Audition Workshops

(booking is required; reserved for prospective students only)

An opportunity for you to watch a classical music audition ‘step by step’ to show you what happens in the audition room. Current Trinity Laban students play the part of the auditionees. Heads of Department will talk through what to expect from the day, what the audition panel will do and say and why, and what they are looking for from you.

You do not need to bring an instrument or prepare any music for this session, as our students will be performing. You will have an opportunity to ask questions.

 

Percussion, Classical Guitar and Harp Workshops

(booking is required; reserved for prospective students only)

Meet our specialist teaching staff, see our dedicated teaching rooms such as the Percussion Suite, and take part in a participatory workshop.

Guitarists should bring their own instrument, and percussionists are welcome to bring sticks/beaters; other instruments and resources will be provided.

 

Chamber Coaching Sessions and Open Masterclasses

(no booking required; open to all)

Watch Trinity Laban students perform and receive coaching from our expert staff – a chance to see what conservatoire-level teaching is like in strings, wind/brass/percussion, keyboards and voice.

Popular Music Workshops

(booking is required; reserved for prospective students only)

A chance to meet our teaching staff, hear about their experiences in the music industry, and experience a taster session for the BA (Hons) Music Performance and Industry programme. Options are Singing, Guitar, Bass/Drums and Keyboards.

Sessions are participatory and you should bring your guitar or bass (with lead and plectrum) or drumsticks as relevant. Amps, mics, keyboards and drum kits are provided.


Jazz Music

Jazz Programme Talk

(no booking required; reserved for parents and prospective students)

Led by the Head of Department, these sessions are an opportunity to gain insight into our specialist offer, such as:

· The philosophy of jazz and ethos of our community

· The audition process and applicant journey

· The set up of the course

· Examples of recent projects and collaborations

· Alumni stories

 

Jazz Workshops

(booking is required; reserved for prospective students only)

An opportunity to experience Trinity Laban’s outstanding jazz student musicians in action, giving a taste of life on the BMus (Hons) Music Performance (Jazz) programme as part of the thriving jazz department.

You do not need to bring an instrument or prepare any music for this session, as our students will be performing; you will have an opportunity to ask questions.


Dance

Contemporary Dance Programmes Talk

(no booking required; prospective students have priority, guests admitted if there is space)

Meet Programme Leaders in Dance who will share information about specific Foundation, Undergraduate and Postgraduate programmes at Trinity Laban including:

· Course structure

· Facilities and performance venues, both onsite and in the wider industry

Workshops: Hip Hop, Contemporary and Ballet

 (booking is required; reserved for prospective students only)

Participatory sessions giving a taster of the techniques and teaching style delivered in our BA (Hons) Contemporary Dance programme. You will work on dance skills and routines as a group, led by a Trinity Laban specialist tutor in one of our purpose-built studios. Like all our classes, the session will be accompanied by a live musician who specialises in dance.

· Please wear clothing that is comfortable to move in (for ballet workshops, please bring ballet shoes if you have them).

· Please ensure that you let us know on the sign-up form about any physical or other accessibility needs so that teachers can accommodate them.

 

Health Suite, Dance Science and Conditioning Studio Tours

(no booking required)

Find out more about our health and fitness facilities. We are pioneers in applying scientific principles to help performing artists avoid or recover from injury, offering our students guidance, 1:1 support, as well as health and fitness resources and classes. You’ll get to tour our clinic, Dance Science lab, teaching facilities, and our conditioning studio.

Musical Theatre Programmes Talk

Meet Programme Leaders in Musical Theatre who will share information about specific CertHE, BA, and Postgraduate programmes at Trinity Laban including:

Workshops: Musical Theatre Acting, Singing, and Dance

Three separate participatory sessions to experience our approach to teaching Acting, Singing and Dance for Musical Theatre, led by a member of teaching staff. You do not need to prepare anything, or have a required level; materials will be provided.

Please dress in clothing that is comfortable to move in if you are taking part in a dance workshop. All workshops will take place in one of our purpose-built Laban Building studios.

Please ensure that you let us know about any physical or other accessibility needs on the sign-up form so that teachers can accommodate them.

Planning your visit

Do I need to book in advance?

Yes – all Trinity Laban open days must be booked in advance via the registration links provided, as places are limited.

Is there a cost to attend an open day?

No, all open days and virtual open evenings are free to attend.

Can I attend more than one open day?

Yes! You are welcome to attend multiple events across different programmes if you are considering more than one pathway.

Can I speak to tutors about my specific programme?

Yes, academic staff will be available during sessions and Q&As to answer programme-specific questions.

Will auditions be discussed?

Yes, we provide guidance on audition requirements, preparation, and timelines during relevant events.

Can international students attend? Absolutely! Our virtual events are particularly suitable for international applicants, and visa and funding guidance is available.


Attending in person

Where do I need to go?

Your starting location and arrival time will be confirmed closer to the event, as this may vary depending on your chosen course. If your schedule includes activities at more than one campus, clear guidance will be provided on the day, and our team will be on hand to direct you. Where needed, support will be available for anyone with access requirements.

Full joining instructions, including directions, will be shared with you in advance of the Open Day.

Where are the nearest train stations?

The nearest station to the Laban Building is Deptford Station which runs National Rail Services and Deptford Bridge Station which runs Docklands Light Railway (DLR) trains. The nearet train station to King Charles Court is Greenwich Station which runs both National Rail Services and the Docklands Light Railway.

 

I can’t stay for the whole day, can I still attend?

Yes. The day is designed for you to drop into sessions as and when you can and many sessions are repeated so if you arrive late or need to leave early, you will still benefit from coming.

 

Are the campuses accessible?

Yes – our buildings are fully accessible. If you have any access requirements, please let us know when registering so we can support you.

 

Is there any parking available?

There is no parking at the Laban Building or at King Charles Court, except for disabled access. Whilst we strongly recommend you travel by public transport, you may wish to look at other parking options for both buildings here. If you require disabled access parking then please email us at contact@trinitylaban.ac.uk.

 

Can I bring a guest?

Yes, you may bring one guest. Due to space capacity, we cannot accommodate more than one. Please note that several of the practical workshops, talks and open lessons are reserved exclusively for prospective students due to limited space capacity. This is indicated next to each relevant workshop or session in the section above.

 

I can’t remember which activities I have signed up for, where can I see these?

If you booked on any number-limited workshops, masterclasses or panel talks, you can see confirmation of these in your original booking confirmation email.

 

I booked a place on a session I can no longer attend. What should I do?

If you are no longer able to attend a booked session, please let us know by emailing contact@trinitylaban.ac.uk so that we can offer your space to someone else.

 

I wasn’t able to sign up for any of the workshops, masterclasses or panel talks, should I still attend the Open Day?

Yes! There are lots of other great sessions, panel talks and performances that do not require pre-booking.

 

I have signed up for a dance/ musical theatre workshop, what should I wear?

We advise that you arrive wearing clothing you feel comfortable moving in. If you have signed up for a Musical Theatre, Dance or Hip Hop workshop please wear indoor shoes or trainers that are non-marking. If you have signed up for a ballet workshop, please bring ballet shoes if you have them but they are not essential. We also advise that you bring a bottle of water, we have refill stations available.

 

Do I need to bring lunch?

You are welcome to bring a packed lunch if preferred. We also sell sandwiches and salads and a selection of hot and cold drinks at our onsite cafes and there are a number of lunch options nearby in Greenwich and Deptford.

 

I have signed up for a Music workshop/masterclass, do I need to bring my instrument?

You need to bring your instrument if you have signed up for any of the following:

· Popular music band workshops – guitarists please bring guitars/ bass guitars, drummers please bring your sticks.

· Classical Guitar workshop – please bring your guitar.

· Percussion Workshop – please bring your stick bag.

· Jazz Workshop- A student group will be playing in this workshop. You can bring your instrument if you would like to participate but it is not a necessity.


Joining us online

Do I need to download any software?

No – our virtual open evenings run in your web browser. Joining instructions will be sent by email before the event.

 

Will the session be recorded?

Some sessions are recorded and made available after the event. Details will be shared following registration.

 

Can I ask questions during the session?

Yes – there will be live Q&A opportunities with staff and students where we’d love to hear from you!
