Junior Fellowships

Our Trinity Laban Junior Fellowship offers a rare and exciting platform for exceptional and aspiring young musicians, providing the support and opportunities necessary to successfully make the leap from full-time conservatoire-based study to excellence in the music profession.

These intensive, year-long Fellowships provide individuals with the means and the time to enhance their professional skills and contacts, while pushing and exploring their own artistic development with the invaluable support of a Trinity Laban mentor.

The Sir Charles Mackerras
Junior Fellowship in Conducting

The Sir Charles Mackerras Junior Fellowship in Conducting is designed to enable an aspiring young conductor to bridge the gap between full-time conservatoire-based study and the music profession by providing them with the means and time to develop their professional skills and contacts whilst continuing their development with the support of a Trinity Laban mentor.

Applications for September 2026 are now open.


How to apply

The application process is in two parts. The first part is an online submission via Embark.

Successful applicants will be asked to participate in an in-person audition at Blackheath Halls on the 1st May 2026.  You will be notified about the outcome during the week of the 30th March.

Application requirements

Please upload the following to Embark:

 

CV
Please attach an up-to-date CV detailing your education, further tuition (if applicable) and professional experience. Being as specific as possible, please indicate how you found out about this Junior Fellowship opportunity.

Covering Letter
Please attach a letter providing a brief statement (of no more than 500 words) indicating your intended personal programme over the Junior Fellowship period.

Short Biography
A version of your biography of approximately 200 words

Names of Referee
Please provide the names of one referee (preferably of national or international stature) who is willing to provide comment on both your professional work to date and your suitability for the Junior Fellowship programme, stating how long they have known you and in what capacity.

Professional Reference
Please attach a scanned copy of the reference from the referee whose details you have supplied above.

Digital Recordings
Please attach a maximum of two recordings –  one in performance and one in rehearsal, with a total length of at least 15 minutes in duration.

Due to the large number of applications received, should your recordings exceed 15 minutes in duration they may not be reviewed in their entirety by the panel.

 

Failing to include any of the items listed above will adversely affect your Junior Fellowship application.

Junior Fellowships are not eligible for Student Visas and you will need to provide evidence of your UK immigration status.
