Soft Being
Over the past year I have been thinking about the difference between looking and seeing, and how they shape what we notice. Drawing loosely on Odradek, the elusive figure from Franz Kafka’s ‘The Cares of a Family Man’, the work explores a presence that emerges and dissolves across space. Situated in and around the building’s vertical lightwell, the installation can be experienced from multiple vantage points, with perforated windows offering filtered views of a performance.
Audience experience The installation is open between 11:30–15:00. Audience can drop in at any time during these hours, with a maximum of 15 visitors at any one time.
16:00 Rabindranath Xavier Bhose, MFA Creative Practice, Studio Theatre (40 mins) @rabi.bhose
Ask me how I got here: Transexual Bliss
Between full certitude and the mysterious exploding seed. Divined choreography meets responsive trumpet fragments in a ceremonial container. The audience is invited to hold a space of refuge for the ‘gender fugitive’ to emerge. The gender fugitive is a state of being which moves from coercion towards freedom through an experience of gender transgression.
Rabindranath draws on an improvised spiralling and rippling movement vocabulary developed through a daily divination and movement practice. A process of pulling tarot and scribing the language emerging from movement creates a live map, which seeks the path to an undercommons from which fugitive knowledge could spring.
Viewer discretion Partial nudity
Audience experience Audience will be in the performance space. Limited capacity 20 people
