Event details

Each piece in this concert evokes the mysteries and depths of night and the sea, drawing listeners into a world of introspection, tranquillity, and intensity. Cesar Franck’s Prelude, Chorale and Fugue opens the programme with a profound and spiritual journey, setting a contemplative tone that resonates with the vastness of the ocean or the quiet majesty of nightfall. Beethoven’s “Moonlight” Sonata transports us into a reflective, dark scene with its iconic opening movement. Peter Sculthorpe’s Night Pieces evoke the ambience of nighttime, and Scriabin’s Sonata No.2, also known as the “Sonata-Fantasy,” is inspired by the black sea, moving from a tranquil beginning to a turbulent, wave-like finale. Together, this programme explores the deep emotional connections between music, night, and the sea.
