Old Royal Naval College
Sunday 8 February 2026
Event details
Join us at Trinity Laban for a day celebrating the viola, cello and double bass, improving your skills and exploring where you might take them next.
This FREE day is for young musicians aged 11 – 18 who play the viola, cello or double bass, and for confident violinists curious about exploring the viola. You’ll either be a Grade 6 or equivalent, or for Grade 3 equivalent musicians you’ll take part in an afternoon workshop. Everyone will join together at the end of the day to hear and share performances.
You’ll get to experience specialist hands-on activities which will help you to:
- Refine your technique
- Develop ensemble skills
- Meet peers who play your instrument
- Find out first-hand what it’s like to play your instrument at a professional level
Explore what life is like at a Conservatoire to help you research your future plans. You will have the opportunity to meet Trinity Laban’s staff and students, including Head of Strings Nic Pendlebury. You can ask questions about developing as a player, careers, auditions, and life in today’s music industry.
For violinists keen to develop musical versatility as a violist, you ‘ll have bespoke group tuition from a specialist and will work on an informal viola performance at the end of the day. We’ll provide the instruments for you to explore this new opportunity.
You’ll go away with some new skills, increased knowledge of life at a conservatoire and information to help you think about your musical future.
