Director of Boston Dance Theatre and alum Jessie Jeanne Stinnett returns to Trinity Laban

Alum and Co-Artistic Director of prestigious dance company Boston Dance Theatre, Jessie Jeanne Stinnett, returned to Trinity Laban this October to lead classes for our MA / MFA Choreography master’s programme.

Jessie received a BFA in Dance Performance from The Boston Conservatory and an MFA in Creative Practice: Dance Professional Pathway from Trinity Laban in 2016. Most notably, Jessie has performed for the Metropolitan Opera, Tate Britain (UK), Prometheus Dance, Institute of Applied Systems Analysis (Vienna), The Boston Baroque Opera, and Bard College’s SummerScape Festival. Her choreographic work has been described by Hannah Chanatry of WBUR as “conceptually driven performance that unpacks the complexities of being female, and pushes the academic boundaries of choreography” and has been sustained in part by grants from The Boston Foundation with support from The Barr Foundation, New England Foundation for the Arts, Assets4Artists at MASS MoCA, and Fidelity Charitable.

Speaking about her experience, Jessie commented: “It was an honor to return to Trinity Laban this October and share aspects of Boston Dance Theater’s creative research with the MA/MFA Choreography students. Our ongoing collaboration with Trinity Laban reflects a shared commitment to experimentation, embodiment, and the evolution of contemporary dance. I was deeply inspired by the students’ openness, their sophisticated engagement with improvisation and musicality, and the ways they brought new life to our choreographic explorations. This exchange continues to strengthen the bridge between our communities in Boston and London.”

About Boston Dance Theatre

Boston Dance Theater (BDT) is Boston’s first contemporary dance repertory company with international ties at the leadership level. With a commitment to presenting works of socio-political relevance, BDT matches the talents of Boston-based dancers with those of acclaimed global choreographers, broadening the scope of contemporary dance practice and performance in the city.

BDT’s mission is to build and sustain a professional contemporary dance company dedicated to providing high quality dance performances, dance education and community outreach, to strengthen the dance community in Boston and create new dance audiences. BDT accomplishes this through partnerships with international and world-renown artists to create high quality work performed by local dancers, mentoring local choreographers and dancers, and by performing dance in non-traditional performance locations, such as libraries, senior centres, art galleries and schools.
