We create Mercury Prize Shortlists

We’ll be watching the announcement of the 2026 Mercury Prize tonight keeping our finger’s crossed for our very own Knats and their album A Great Day in Newcastle. Knats includes King David Ike-Elechi and Stan Woodward (class of 2026 alumni) and Ferg Kilsby, who is in his final year of our BMus Jazz Performance programme.

The Mercury Prize promotes the best of UK and Irish music and the artists who produce it. This is done through the celebration of the 12 ‘Albums of the Year’, recognising artistic achievement across an eclectic range of contemporary music genres.

It is the music equivalent to the Booker Prize for literature and the Turner Prize for art

The Trinity Laban community has been represented on the shortlist for the past decade by a whole roster of artists who are shaping the future of contemporary music. Here’s a round up of previous nominees (as well as 2023 winners Ezra Collective).
