find out moreThe Artist Diploma is an ideal bridge to the music profession for advanced students who have already completed a postgraduate programme.
Through one-to-one and small group tuition, you will develop your exceptional musical skills as you learn to communicate as an artist at the very highest level. You will also create a professional portfolio, develop your entrepreneurial skills and have the opportunity to undertake a placement with a professional mentor.
This training enables you to confidently enter the music world with a highly evolved professional profile.
This programme comprises of three core modules, delivered through one-to-one and group tuition, masterclass, ensemble performance and seminars.
Forming a core part of the programme, your Principal Study develops the technical and musicianship skills needed to cultivate your distinct and individual artistic voice. You will be taught through a mixture of one-to-one and small group lessons, masterclasses, technical and professional development seminars, workshops and large group learning. Throughout the programme you will also be exposed to varied opportunities that musicians in the wider music profession experience.
This module gives you the experience of what working life as a musician will be like. It will equip you with the knowledge, understanding and skills to communicate your artistic activities and aspirations in a sophisticated way.
Different opportunities throughout the programme will give you a wider awareness of the current issues and debates in the music profession. You’ll develop your audition and ensemble skills, learn how to market yourself and develop extra-musical skills, such as public speaking.
During the programme you will have the opportunity to undertake a placement and work alongside a professional mentor where you will be able to interact with professional musicians, see them work in a variety of contexts and be able to discuss your career plans with them as you prepare for the professional world.
This is our festival of collaborative learning where students, staff and external mentors from across the Faculties of Music and Dance take a break from their regular timetables to work together on new and experimental projects. This is a two-week intensive project that values artistic risk taking and processes, and will help you to develop a mature and reflective approach to your individual development.
This programme aims to develop your independent learning skills and you’ll be encouraged to reflect on your learning. You’ll learn through a blend of formal tuition, experiential learning and personal study. Your Principal Study is a central part of the programme which will consist of one-to-one and small group tuition, rehearsals, workshops, seminars and masterclasses. You will also have the opportunity to contextualise your learning through a broad range of solo, small group, chamber and large ensemble activities.
Collaboration a key part of the Trinity Laban experience and at the heart of professional artistic life. Throughout the programme you will work with other students from different programmes and disciplines, whether that’s working side by side or by taking a leadership role.
To give you an understanding of what the professional world will be like, our assessment methods aim to mirror professional contexts. For your Principal Study module, you will be assessed through solo recitals and ensemble playing. The Professional Project will be assessed through a pre-concert talk and a professional portfolio including a demo recording. CoLab is assessed on the basis of your participation in and engagment with a collaborative project.
The programme comprises 1,200 hours of learning and teaching, including a minimum of 310 hours of contact time. Rehearsal and performance contact time will vary according to your Principal Study.
When you apply, we’ll be looking for your ability to make sophisticated and stylistic and interpretive evaluations of musical texts, which we’ll assess through your application, audition and interview.
