Biography
Janet Coles studied at Trinity College of Music and with Christopher Bunting and Lionel Handy. She has performed concertos in Germany, Holland, Vienna, Esterháza, Switzerland and in the UK. She has also given solo and chamber music recitals at many venues, from Wigmore Hall, Purcell Room and St. Martin-in-the-Fields to barns and paddle steamers.
As a freelance orchestral cellist, Janet has played with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, D’Oyly Carte Opera, London Festival Ballet, English National Orchestra and in West End Shows.
Previously Janet has taught at the University of Greenwich, City of London Boys’ School and the City Lit. She now lives in Somerset and as well as teaching cello and chamber music at Junior Trinity, she teaches at Westminster Abbey Choir School and Sherborne Girls.
Recently Janet performed trios by Beethoven and Brahms with Nadia Lasserson (Junior Trinity piano teacher) and Masumi Ogura (clarinet) at St. Martin-in-the-Fields.
