Biography
Andrew Bernardi attended The Skinners’ School and graduated from Leeds University. He studied violin with John Ludlow, the late Hugh Bean CBE, Francis Mason and was strongly influenced by the late Lord Yehudi Menuhin. He won the Lebel postgraduate scholarship to study at Trinity College of Music where he led all the orchestras. He has subsequently become established as one of England’s leading violinists, string educationalists and music entrepreneurs. He formed his Bernardi Music Group described by Jon Snow on Channel Four News as "the beautiful playing from Bernardi Music Group". BMG consists of an international level orchestra, Shipley Arts Festival, The Stradivarius Piano Trio and our String Academy.
Andrew performs with many of the UK’s leading orchestras. He has played on TV and film soundtracks including cameo appearances in Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation, Nanny McPhee, The Talented Mr Ripley and Pride and Prejudice. Andrew continues a 25 year relationship with Raymond Gubbay Ltd having performed over one thousand concerts in the Royal Albert Hall, Royal Festival Hall, the Barbican and Lucerne Concert Hall.
Andrew has for 19 years served as a tutor at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance. He is founder and Artistic Director of Shipley Arts Festival and String Academy where he has commissioned over 20 new works including achieving No .4 in the Classic FM charts with Jon Lord (formerly of Deep Purple). Andrew has been asked to be Artistic Director of Horsham Festival, and a trustee for Sussex Arts Academy. Over 30 of Andrew’s pupils now perform and teach in the music profession.
Andrew’s great passions are music, sailing, architecture, and racing classic performance automobiles at the Goodwood Motor Circuit.
Andrew performs on an exceptionally fine Stradivarius violin and Voirin bow formerly owned by the late Lord Menuhin.
