Biography

Recorder player Olwen Foulkes released her debut album Directed by Handel on Barn Cottage Records in Winter 2017 and recently graduated from the Royal Academy of Music, London, with a “distinction” and DipRAM award for her MMus degree.

Olwen was selected as a Handel House Talent artist at Handel&Hendrix House in London in 2015 and she particularly enjoys programming chamber recitals for intimate venues such as Handel&Handrix House, the Foundling Museum, and the Wallace Collection with her regular duo partner, harpsichordist Nathaniel Mander and chamber group Flauti d’echo.

In larger settings, Olwen has performed with the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, La Serenissima, Oxford Baroque, and Hampstead Garden Opera. She has recently made appearances as a concerto soloist with Music for Awhile, Oxford Bach Soloists, Amersham Festival Orchestra, 21st Century Baroque, the Amadé Players, L’instante, and the Royal Academy of Music Baroque Orchestra.

Olwen teaches the recorder for the Junior Department at Trinity Laban, is a classroom music teacher at the American School in London, and gives lectures on 18th-century dance and ornamentation at the Royal Academy of Music.
