Biography

Lucy Waterhouse was born into a family of musicians in London and graduated from the University of Cambridge before finishing her violin studies in London at Guildhall School of Music and Drama and Indiana University in the USA.  After college, Lucy lived for three years in Norway, both up in the arctic north and in Oslo, where she played chamber music, then in the Norwegian Opera and Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra.

Back in London, Lucy has enjoyed an extremely varied freelance career playing in many London orchestras including the Philharmonia, BBC Symphony, London Mozart Players, City of London Sinfonia, English National Opera and the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment. She’s performed with the Fitzwilliam String Quartet, Tango Volcano – the tango band she started in 2001 – and more recently with her new band, Almagro Ensemble.

As a coach Lucy teaches chamber music at NCMC and is involved with Apollo Music Projects, bringing live music into Primary Schools in Hackney & Tower Hamlets. She is a founding member of Highbury Opera Theatre and lives in Islington with her family.
