Biography

Van Schuylenburch was born in Amsterdam and trained at the Rotterdam Dance Academy now Codarts University of the Arts. She danced with Rotterdam Werkcentrum Dans and Nederlands Dans Theater 2. She moved to New York to study at the Merce Cunningham Studio and performed with experimental and Post-Modern choreographers including Bill T. Jones and Arnie Zane, David Gordon, Albert Reid, Jim Self, Ton Simons and Karole Armitage.

In New York she met Michael Clark who invited Van Schuylenburch to perform in his duet programme New Puritans/Parts I-IV. She became a founder member of Michael Clark Company and performed in the productions New Puritans and Do You Me? I Did, not H.AIR, our caca phoney H. our caca phoney H., No Fire Escape in Hell, Pure Pre-Scenes, Because We Must, and I Am Curious, Orange. She performed in several Laurie Booth productions and created and toured her own solo work. She has been the assistant to Michael Clark and rehearsal director for Richard Alston Dance Company and Russell Maliphant Dance Company. She was Michael Clark Company’s Special Projects and Artistic Documentation officer and set up Clark’s archive. She performed in the works of artists Tino Sehgal, Alexis Blake and Nina Beier.

She is a company teacher for Rambert Dance and Wayne McGregor Random and is a dance tutor and academic tutor at Trinity Laban Conservatoire for Music and Dance.
