Study with us in London
Find out what makes London such an exceptional place to be a student.
find out moreThe Cert HE Foundations of Musical Theatre is designed for aspiring musical theatre artists who wish to develop their skills and techniques through a dedicated foundation programme of practical and contextual study. It is an opportunity for students to access high-quality conservatoire training and may provide an entry route to further specialist/vocational training (e.g. undergraduate degree programmes within the conservatoire or wider higher education sectors, particularly within the UK) or a platform for a dedicated period of personal study.
Key Features
After completing the programme, many students successfully move on to undergraduate study.
Please note, this course was previously called Foundation Year in Musical Theatre and Independent Study Programme Foundation: Musical Theatre Pathway.
The programme is suitable for a variety of different applicants, including:
Modules | Credits |
Skills and Techniques | 90 |
Preparing to Audition | 10 |
Preparing to Perform | 20 |
For further details see our Programme Specification.
This programme assumes 1200 learning and teaching hours with approximately 270 hours average contact time – of course this will vary depending on the selected modules, so you will need to examine each module’s specification to determine the precise number of hours.
Learning takes place through a blend of formal tuition, experiential learning and personal study.
You will receive regular formative feedback in class from teachers, and written feedback (including an indicative grading) following each formal assessment point.
Trinity Laban places greater emphasis on its own audition and tests than on formal qualifications. As a guide, please note that the course is aimed at students considering entry to undergraduate study at conservatoire or university, and places are offered to applicants who demonstrate the potential to reach that level within the year.
Auditions
Audition requirements currently map entirely to those for the BA (Hons) Musical Theatre Performance degree – for further details please see Musical Theatre Applications
Loan eligibility
Please note that this programme is eligible for Student Loans.
English Language Requirements
For students whose first language is not English an English language assessment will be undertaken on application/audition, on the basis of which a recommendation for further study may be made.
It is not possible to confirm fees for future academic years, as fee changes are linked to inflation and changes in government policy. Please note that tuition fees may increase by up to 5% each year.
