Robert Bottriell


Born on the Isle of Wight, Robert studied music at the University of Exeter and went on to study at the Royal Academy of Music, later becoming a Junior Fellow as well the Guildhall School of Music and Drama.

Robert is a freelance musical director, répétiteur, accompanist and vocal coach based in London and has worked for companies including ENO, ENO Baylis, ROH2, Opera East, British Youth Opera, Tête à Tête Opera, Opera della Luna and Northern Ireland Opera. Robert is Co-Director of Postgraduate Opera Scenes at Trinity Laban, visiting coach and répétiteur for Morley College Opera and ENO Opera Works, staff accompanist and répétiteur for RAM, RCM as well as GSMD as well as co-workshop leader for Glyndebourne Touring Opera’s education projects.

Robert conducted off-stage for the Royal Opera’s production of Matilde di Shabran (2008) and in 2009 was appointed Trainee Répétiteur at English National Opera. Highlights since then have included the world premiere of Tarik O’Regan’s Heart of Darkness for Opera East/ROH2, Turn of the Screw for Northern Ireland Opera and La Rondine for Iford Arts. In his previous post as Musical Director for Opera A La Carte together with its sister company Regents Opera, Robert conducted La Traviata and Carmen and most recently was appointed Musical Director of Opera Brava for their 2015 season of Carmen, Rigoletto and extensive education portfolio. Alongside his operatic work, Robert has accompanied numerous singers and instrumentalists for recitals in many of the major London concert venues and has enjoyed a longstanding connection with international clarinettist Julian Bliss.
