Biography

Amir Mahyar Tafreshipour graduated with a BMus, composition in 2003. He is a leading Iranian contemporary composer and has worked with various major ensembles, soloists and orchestras. In 2003 he won first prize at the composition competition for new music in Tehran University with his solo piano work Images of Childhood and also was awarded a silver medal for outstanding achievement at Trinity College of Music. The BBC commissioned a Harp Concerto in 2005 which was broadcast on BBC Radio 3. His opera The Doll Behind the Curtain, premiered at the Tête à Tête Opera Festival in Kings Place, 2015. Amir Mahyar has also studied at the Esbjerg Academy of Music, Guildhall School of Music and Drama and in 2016 completed his PhD in composition at Brunel University. He is working on his second opera and has released the CD Persian Echoes, performed by the English Chamber Orchestra and the Crash Ensemble, under the Naxos label.
