Transitions 2020

From dirt to soil

Choreography: Karole Armitage and the Company
Sound: The recording of Wes Jackson is used with the generous permission of Wes Jackson and The Land Institute
Performers: Sophie Halstead/Virginia Poli, Hattie Harding/Shannon Oleson, Benjamin Head/Leopold Meredith, Jasmine Rose Man/Lee Xue Jing, Pinelopi Mousga, Nadine Elise Muncey/Caterina Morandini, Camélia Veillon/Anoushka Jago, Christina Prompona /Jiaxin Yuan
Costume Designer: Suzie Holmes
Lighting Designer: Fay Patterson

For this debut work for Transitions, Karole shapes her slinky and sharp neo-classical movement language through traditional partnering and theatrical gesture to formulate an urgent and personal response to world environmental issues.  A conversation with notable American agriculturalist, Wes Jackson, is the rhythmic impetus and drives the narrative of the choreography - from cheeky chimp to so-called ‘sophisticated’ (hu)man.
