Trinity Laban creates performance opportunities for 2020 dance graduates
Fri 27 November 2020Newly commissioned work Let Me Move, devised by Associate Artist Thēo TJ Lowe in collaboration with Transitions Dance Company, premieres live next Friday night on YouTube. Generating performance opportunities for 2020 dance graduates following pandemic delays, the original work brings an ephemeral moment of live dance to homes across the globe.
In a creative process led by Trinity Laban’s Associate Artist and alum Thēo TJ Lowe, four elite dancers from Trinity Laban’s flagship postgraduate Transitions join forces with three graduating final-year dance students and student percussionist Tom Plumridge to share Let Me Move. The exclusive livestream, premiering on Friday 4 December on Trinity Laban YouTube also features music by Trinity Laban music students Emily de Gruchy and Joshua Kaye.
Choreographer Thēo comments –
“Let me move explores energy in motion and emotional release through movement & breath: let me release in motion, let me feel in motion, let me be. Surrender to the moment in time. Breathe.”
The beautiful 20-minute multi-camera production will be followed by a Q&A with Thēo and the dancers on Trinity Laban’s Instagram, offering insight into the experience of creation during an unprecedented time.
The project has also been captured in a stunning dance film and accompanying behind-the-scenes documentary by Felix Ursell, which is set to be released on YouTube on Friday 11 December.
Rehearsed and performed within the restrictions of social distancing, Let Me Move demonstrates the innovation and resilience of Trinity Laban’s artists in this challenging period.
Describing the genesis of the piece, Thēo continues –
“Let me move was birthed from frustration into release. I wanted to explore a process that included everyone everywhere; a human expression. 2020 has been tough for everyone. I tried to listen to what I felt we all may need.”
After a disrupted year that saw numerous in-person performances cancelled due to Covid-19 – including a large portion of Transitions Dance Company’s hotly-anticipated UK Tour – the specially curated work gives students the space to perform and work together again in a fully-supported professional production.
