Biography
Janet Munro studied at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama (RCS) and the Royal Academy of Music supported by a Scottish Arts Council scholarship. For many years she worked as a professional singer with several different companies including Kent Opera and the New D’Oyly Carte Opera Company as well as giving premieres at the Bush Theatre and Edinburgh Fringe. She also performed extensively in this country and abroad as a recitalist before returning to study at Middlesex University and the Institute of Education.
Janet has a special interest in supporting aspiring professional singers and has given presentations on vocal health in collaboration with Dr Patricia Holmes at the Reflective Conservatoire Conference and the International Symposium on Performance Science in Reykjavík. She also gave a presentation on Repertoire through Voice Change at the Pan European Voice Conference in Copenhagen. She is involved mentoring singing teachers, first working with the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music on their professional development programme and more recently collaborating on the development of the Essentials online course for the Association of Teachers of Singing. She is the vocal lead for the Certificate of Teaching for the European String Teachers Association.
